Winner at Synopsys Science Fair 2020

My team (with Arjun and Vivek) came 2nd at the Synopsys Science Fair. It was supposed to be held at the San Jose Convention Center, but because of Covid-19 it became a Zoom event. We were given a time when we had to logon to the zoom link. We had to present our project to the judges and then they asked us questions.

Our topic was the Salinity Factor

Have you ever thought to yourself what will happen if the polar caps melt? Or, with California running out of drinking water, where should we build the desalination plants? Our experiment helps because we get to know the impact of salinity on rate of evaporation.

When global warming causes the polar caps to melt, then water from the ice will mix with ocean water and make it less saline. Will this cause more rainfall or less? We will get to know from our experiment. If there is more rain, that isn’t just bad because you can’t go to the beach more often but it will cause floods and surges. If some part of the ocean is less saline, is that good or bad for a desalination plant? Our experiments will tell us all.

For this project, we made a solar oven.

My School D.C Trip!!

I went on a school trip to Washington D.C on 4th June. There were around 47 people that went, mix of 8th graders and 9th graders. We were supposed to go to D.C last year, but the pandemic got it cancelled. Anyways, me and my parents went to SFO.  When I was in the car, I was nervous because this was the first time that I will be in a different place for 5 days! The longest that I stayed in a place without my parents was in my 5th grade science camp which lasted for 3 days. My parents dropped me off and left. I was super confused on what should I do. My history teacher, Ms. Woodhams, saw me and gave me my plane ticket. She told me to wait here while everyone else comes. After everyone reached, we went to the security. Pretty much everyone's bag was sent back to the X-ray scanner. After we all got our bags, we went to the gate, which had started to call people for boarding. We barely were able to reach on time. The flight was a 5 hour flight to Charlotte. When we reached Charlotte, w...

How to 3D Print: Zoom Recording For Interested Folks

I think in a previous post I have talked about the Bengal Club of Bay Area (BCBA) , an association my parents are associated with that promotes Indian cultural events. They also keep events for community outreach. One of the events was a Zoom session that I hosted to introduce 3D printing to whoever wanted to know.    BCBA had promoted the event through Facebook.  I hope I was able to make some people curious about how the stuff works. I enjoyed my first Zoom event.  If you want a quick introduction to the amazing possibilities with 3D printing, watch the recorded event.
