My School D.C Trip!!

I went on a school trip to Washington D.C on 4th June. There were around 47 people that went, mix of 8th graders and 9th graders. We were supposed to go to D.C last year, but the pandemic got it cancelled. Anyways, me and my parents went to SFO.

When I was in the car, I was nervous because this was the first time that I will be in a different place for 5 days! The longest that I stayed in a place without my parents was in my 5th grade science camp which lasted for 3 days. My parents dropped me off and left. I was super confused on what should I do. My history teacher, Ms. Woodhams, saw me and gave me my plane ticket. She told me to wait here while everyone else comes. After everyone reached, we went to the security. Pretty much everyone's bag was sent back to the X-ray scanner. After we all got our bags, we went to the gate, which had started to call people for boarding. We barely were able to reach on time. The flight was a 5 hour flight to Charlotte. When we reached Charlotte, we all went to get food. I bought a sandwich. We stopped at Charlotte for 2 hours and then we boarded the next flight. An hour later, we reached D.C!

Some places that I found interesting were Jamestown, Williamsburg, and the whole of D.C! Jamestown was the first colony in America. Jamestown was made by British settlers. The British used 3 ships, Susan Constant, Discovery, and Godspeed. When I went there, they had replicas that actually worked! We saw how the British settlers lived, what their daily routines were, and I also saw how a musket worked too! They are very loud and the reload time for it is 20 seconds.

Jamestown was initially the capital for the new colony, but the British soon moved the capital to Williamsburg. The main reason of moving it was that Jamestown is a peninsula and the new U.S was gaining its freedom from British. The British had the best navy at the time, so the U.S moved the capital to Williamsburg. Williamsburg is the largest museum in the world! The whole city is a museum! The cash-crop at that time was tobacco. There are 2 types of tobacco: North American and South American. The North American tobacco is 21 times stronger than the South American. When the people in America were selling it to the British, they didn't like it. North American tobacco is good for hunting because it is a good poison.

The last place that I found interesting was D.C! The last time I went to D.C with my parents in Dec, 2018, we could go in the Capitol. This year, it was closed due to the January 6th insurrection. There was Secret Service everywhere, even in the McDonalds nearby. We could still go to the Archives building, Smithsonian buildings.  We went to Arlington too! I saw the tombs of the unnamed soldiers and John F. Kennedy's family. Some people from our school laid a wreath there too. We also discovered the monuments too. The Washington Monument has a 1/15 chance of getting struck by lightning! The day we went there, there was dry lightning. The next day we packed our stuff and went back to D.C to visit the Smithsonian National American History Museum. I saw the pair of shoes Dorothy wore in The Wizard of Oz!

When I came back from Dulles to SFO on the 9th, I was scared that my parent wouldn't come to pick me up :-). I thought they left me at D.C forever! Then my parents messaged that they picked up my bag. That made me calm down and then our teacher released us to our parents.

Get Your Soap from Me

Something new this Spring break!!  My friend came over to our place with soap ingredients from Michaels. There was goat milk, 2 boxes of lavender incense, molds and food coloring. I would definitely use these... would you?

MUSD 2022 STEAM Showcase

Today we displayed our projects to guests and judges. My booth was pretty busy. People were curious how to know how to build a heart-beat sensor using an Arduino and a Pulse Sensor!! The Assembly Member from Milpitas, Alex Lee, also came to see our projects. And so did the district director, Anurag Pal. We have the common last name ... and for that he gave me his business card :-) The MHS Science Olympiad team had a cool project ... a rubber band powered plane that keeps flying in circles ... and comes down as the rubber band unwinds. Its an example of potential energy getting converted to kinetic energy. Here is the video MUSD posted my project on their website. Here is the link
